Implications of Nano/Microplastic Pollution on AquatiC Environment HealTh

July 2026

Between 23-28 August 2026, members of the IMPACT project team from Babeș-Bolyai University participated in the 29th International Conference on Raman Spectroscopy (ICORS 2026), held in Istanbul, Türkiye.

We are proud to have had five team members, together with Prof. Simona Cintă Pinzaru, represented at this international scientific event through an invited presentation, two oral presentations, and poster contributions.

🎤 Prof. Simona Cîntă Pînzaru was invited to give a presentation entitled:

“Aquatic Aged Micro- Nano Plastic Reference Materials as Resonance Raman-SERRS Traceable Probe for Controlled Exposure and Impact Studies”

She also presented a poster during the conference.

🎙️ Two oral presentations were delivered by members of the IMPACT team:

Iuliana-Cornelia Sandu-Poplăcean
“Pigment Diversity and Unusual Blue Biogenic Shell in the Invasive Population of Rapana venosa Sea Snail Revealed by Multi-Laser Raman, SERS, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM-EDX Analysis”

Ion Nesterovschi
“Raman Characterization of Blue Microplastic Ingestion and Carotenoid Responses in Zooplankton”

📌 Three additional poster contributions were presented by:

Ioana Cârdan
“Nanostructured SERS Substrates Engineered via Colloidal Lithography for Environmental Nanoplastics Detection”

Anamaria Couți
“SERS-Based Assessment of Salinity in Hypersaline Solutions Supported by Dynamic Light Scattering”

Karlo Maškarić
“Silver Nanoparticles-Environmentally Aged Blue Polypropylene Composite: Detection and Tracking of Micro- and Nano-Sized Plastic Particles by SERS”

Participation in ICORS 2026 provided a valuable opportunity for our team to present our latest research, exchange ideas with researchers from around the world, and strengthen connections within the international Raman spectroscopy community.

👏 Congratulations to all our colleagues for their contributions and for the research work behind these results!
